Title: All in Vain
Characters: Kurt Weller, Jane Doe
Rating: PG
Words: 100
Finished: May 2017

:::

The result of the DNA test said that with a 97% safety Jane Doe was Tylor Shaw.

Kurt Heller had hoped this would give all of them back some peace and quiet, but he felt deeply confused instead.

Everyone, first of all, he himself, had blamed his father for kidnapping, even killing the young girl all the years. For him the rehabilitation was too late; cancer would end his life soon enough.

And Jane? She didn't look relieved, either, still a lost soul without a past. A name alone couldn't give her back all the time she didn't remember anymore.

Title: Comfort
Characters: Patterson, Jane Doe
Words: 100
Rating: PG13
Challenge: Alone
Finished: May 2017

Patterson noticed the sadness in Jane's eyes and didn't need to ask for the reason. Again the young woman had hoped to find out more about her past; again the answer to the riddle just had raised even more questions. So hard to imagine how alone she had felt since the day she had been found at Times Square, without memories, naked, covered with strange tattoos.

Later, Patterson couldn't say what had gotten into her, but at this moment, it felt like the only thing she could do to offer at least some comfort. She bent forward and kissed her.

Title: Peace of mind
Characters: Agent Patterson, mention of Jane Doe
Rating: PG
Words: 200
Challenge: Peace of mind
Finished: May 2017

:::

When the team left the laboratory in a hurry, Agent Patterson leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes. Only some minutes of rest before she would go back to her task.

The last tattoo she had decrypted only one hour ago. A spread eagle, a moon, and some hieroglyphs whose meaning had been a pretty nice challenge. Finding the solution had cost her almost two days without much sleep.

It's not the first time that this happened. Since Jane had appeared from close to scratch, without any memory of her past, every part of her body covered with mysterious tattoos, she didn't get much sleep anymore. From the very first moment, she felt attracted to the young woman. Despite her strange situation being so strong, she moved on without complaining. Wildly resolved to find out the truth, no matter the consequences.

Only sometimes, the shell she had built up around her got some cracks, and uneasiness and sadness were sparkling in her eyes.

Then Carol wished she could give her back her peace of mind to make her smile again. But all she could do was to do her job as best as possible.

Title: Mystic tattoos
Character: Jane Doe, Agent Patterson
Word Count: 276
Prompt: mystic
Finished: 25.07.2021

:::

Patterson watched the woman by her side for quite a while already. Took in the bronze tone of her skin, hidden under the mystic tattoos. She had been able to find out more about the meaning of some of them, but so many secrets were still unsolved. And every new awareness would bring out more about Jane's old life. A life she didn't remember anymore; Patterson sometimes thought that it was better that way.

Not that she was overly freighted because of it, but she noticed the panic in Jane's eyes, even if she tried to hide it, whenever she told her some news about a tattoo. Like today, a tattoo on her lower back. It talked about Jane's connection with terrorist activities. Jane had slightly narrowed her eyes and turned away without saying a word, and it had hurt so much to see her like that, not being able to give her the comfort she needed.

Jane was strong, Jane was honest, and sometimes, when they were alone, she could be the most gently, most emphatic woman she had ever met. Whoever she had been once, whatever she had done, Patterson was sure that there had been a good reason for it. Even if others called her a terrorist and a killer.

„Why don't you run away in horror from me,“ Jane had asked later in the evening, when they met again, secretly as ever, in this shabby motel near the highway. „How can you love me?“

„How can I not?“ Patterson had pulled her into her arms to kiss her. At least for some hours, she would help her to forget again.

Title: Some borrowed hours
Characters: Jane Doe, Patterson
Prompt: female character(s) / dream
Word Count: 100
Finished: 27.03.2020

:::

Jane opened her eyes, a new day, and no one could say where it would take her. Since she woke up in the suitcase at Time Square some weeks ago, naked but covered with uncountable tattoos, without any memory, her life felt like a nightmare she couldn't escape, a neverending search for the truth about a past she was afraid of.

But at night, with Patterson at her side, she was able to let loose. Hold by gentle hands, calmed down by soothing words — lovemaking, not sex. Only a dream, lasting for some borrowed hours, but so needed to survive.
