Vanya tossed and turned around in her bed, unable to come to rest. This would be another sleepless night. Her father and her siblings had left the academy for whatever adventure. Only she was the odd one out, without any extraordinary power, always left behind.
She felt tears burning in her eyes, wondering once again why Sir Reginald Hargreeves had adopted her when he was so obviously only interested in special children.
The door opened and the light fell onto Pogo, the chimpanzee confidante of her father. As if he could read her mind, he stepped closer, flattened her blanket. „He loves you,“ he reassured her in his always so gentle voice,“ just because you are different.“
