Title: Christmas Dinner
Character: Casey Connor, Zeke Tyler
Word Count: 196
Prompt: Burnt Turkey
Finished: 04.12.2022

„Casey?“ Zeke rushed into the kitchen when he heard the desperate outcry. „What's happened?“

The boy was leaning at the counter, his face wet with tears. „I've ruined everything.“

Feeling confused, Zeke stepped closer; then he noticed the bitter smell of burned meat, and a realization hit him. „Oh. The turkey?!“

Casey sniffed. „I ruined it,“ he repeated. „It's the first Christmas my parents visit us here in New York, and I want it to be perfect. But I can't even cook a stupid turkey.“

„Hey, it was only the test run.“ Zeke put his arm around Casey's wild, shaking shoulders. „Next time, you will do better.“

„And what if not? I've told you, I am a miserable cook.“

It was hard not to smile. „Case. I'm sure your parents don't expect a perfect Christmas dinner. We could order something for delivery. And you make the dessert. Your Muffins are delicious.“

„Maybe we could do that.“ Casey sighed. „But it won't be the same. My mom will ...“

Zeke bent forward and stopped him with a kiss. „Don't worry. I'm sure all that your Mom needs for a perfect Christmas is you.“

„You did... what?“ Full of disbelief, Casey stared at the older boy sitting opposite him. „You called my mom? How could you?“

Zeke felt the urge to pull him into his arms, but he knew better. „I know that you miss her. Even if you refuse to talk about what happened back then. And it's almost Christmas. Family time.“

„What family?“ Tears were sparkling in blue eyes. „They were acting like homophobic pricks. Instead of staying behind their son, they preferred to go the easy way and throw me out of the house. Why should I miss them?“

„Because they are still your parents. And it looks as if at least your mom regrets her behavior. She says that she would like to come to New York to see you.“

Casey paled. „What? No! I don't want to see her ever again.“

Zeke didn't hold back any longer; despite Casey's pushback, he grabbed his arms to hold him. „I'm afraid she's already on the way. She didn't even hesitate a moment when I told her where you are living now. Whatever she did, I'm sure she has regretted it every day since then. And at least she deserves a second chance.“

Casey sniffed uncontrolled. „As if this is so easy.“

Zeke placed a soft kiss on his drowned-in-tears face. „No one says that it will be easy. But it is worth it because it could bring you and your mom together again. Having a family in your life changes all, Casey.“

And he was thinking of his own parents, whom he had never gotten to know. Growing up in various foster families who didn't even deserve this name, he had learned to live on his own from the beginning. An endless, lonely fight against the difficulties of life. If he hadn't met Casey some time ago, who knows where he would be now?

Title: Christmas Shopping
Character: Casey Connor, Zeke Tyler
Word Count: 262
Prompt: decorated road
Rating: PG13
Finished: 01.12.2022

:::

Zeke looked at his boyfriend questioningly. „Hey, what's wrong? You don't enjoy our Christmas shopping trip?“

Casey hesitated. „Well... The big Christmas tree on the market looks great, and the roads are decorated perfectly.“

„Okay. I can hear a but. C'mon, spit it.“

„So many people. The town is totally crowded, and it's all about commerce. It just doesn't feel right." The boy sighed. "I'm sorry; I didn't mean to ruin this afternoon.“

Smiling, Zeke fleetingly squeezed his hand. „C'mon, geek boy, let's split. I bet you do like the little Christmas Market in Herrington more. Lots of handcrafted gifts and tons of sugary goods.“

„Yeah,“ Casey agreed. „I go there every year, and though not much has changed since I was a child, it radiates true Christmas spirit for me. Too sad that we can't go there together.“

„Hm. Why not?“

„Because... it's Herrington. We might run into the one or the other familiar face from school.“

„And would you mind?“

„Ähm... I guess not.“ Casey looked slightly irritated. „But isn't it you who always say better to be careful? Rumors spread in lightning speed.“

„Probably.“ Zeke shrugged. „But to be honest, I don't care any longer. I never was a big fan of Christmas, but I would like to give it a chance together with you. What do you think, ready for the adventure?“

Blue eyes sparkled excitedly. „ So ready for it!“

Prompt: first snow
Word Count: 200
Finished: 10.12.2020

Shaun looked up into the sky.“It will start snowing soon.“

„That's great. Winter without tons of snow is just half the fun.“

„Winter is fun? Busses will be late, the traffic will break down, and there will be about 20% more car accidents. I will have to take extra shifts at the hospital because of this.“

„But what's with snowball fights and ice skating? Dancing in the snow at night?“

„For what is this good for? You'll only get a cold.“

Lea laughed. „You do like singing karaoke, don't you?“

„Together with you? Yes.“

„But for what is this good for?“ Smiling she grabbed for his hand. „It can never hurt to try something new. We could visit the Christmas market this weekend, watching the parade, having a ride on the merry-go-round.“ She could read the uneasiness in Shaun's eyes and squeezed his hand reassuring. „If you don't like it, we can still go into our bar to sing karaoke.“

"Do you like all this?"

"I'm crazy about it. Winter always was my favorite time of the year."

Still looking unsure Shaun finally slowly nodded. "Okay. Then, I guess, I'll give it a try."

Title: Jamaican Sorrel Drink
Character: Zeke Tyler, Casey Connor
Prompt: Jamaican Sorrel Drink
Word Count: 200
Finished: 09.12.2020

„I know the perfect drink for our Christmas party,“ Casey said.

Zeke looked up from his car magazine. „Lemme guess, eggnog? Creamy and sweet.“

„Sweet, but spicey. But we need to go to the African market at first.“

„Oh. African eggs are different from ours?“

„ I don't know.“ Casey laughed. „But these markets are the best place to find dried sepals of the hibiscus flower.“

„Hibiscus sepals?“

„For a Jamaican sorrel.“

„Never heard about this before.“

„I guess most people in New York don't. But it's delicious. And with fresh ginger, allspice berries, and cloves, it makes a perfect Christmas drink.“ He paused shortly. „It was a kind of tradition every year that my grandma made some for the family. When I was younger, I always got a kids version, without rum.“

„Tradition, huh?“ Now Zeke smiled, well knowing how much all this family stuff meant for Casey. To spent his first Christmas without his beloved grandma and far away from home was hard. „Well, I guess that's a good reason to give it a try. Let's head to the market first, before we go to the mall for more decoration.“

Title: Cold and hot
Character: Zeke Tyler, Casey Connor
Prompt: drinking hot tea
Word Count: 200
Finished: 02.12.2020

:::

After the, at least for his liking, much too long photo trip into the wintery woods, Zeke's mood was low. Chilled through, fingers and feet so cold that he could barely move them. Huffing slightly, he dropped down onto the couch, watching his cheery boyfriend.

„What a wonderful afternoon,“ Casey couldn't stop gushing. „The snow on the trees, the frozen lake, and, of course, the fox family we met. I hope I was able to take some good shots for the Winter challenge of my photo course. Did I tell you that the top three will get a place at the Academy of Art's yearly exhibition? This would be a great chance for me; maybe...“ He paused, eying Zeke frowning. „What's wrong?“

„Cold,“ Zeke snarled, rubbing his fingers together.

„I could make us hot cacao.“

Zeke rolled his eyes. „Cacao? Am I a toddler?“

„Then maybe tea.“ Casey giggled slightly. „With a lacing of rum to cheer you up. Or we could go upstairs, have a shower at first. I already have some ideas about how to warm you up.“

Impossible to be grumpy with this little geek around; Zeke couldn't hide his grin any longer.

Title: What a cutie
Character: Zeke Tyler, Casey Connor
Prompt: dog
Word Count: 200
Finished: 01.12.2020

:::

„Oh, what a cutie.“ Without hesitation, Casey kneeled down beside the big, white dog to cuddle him. „What are you doing here all alone, huh? Someone could step by, kidnap you.“

Zeke watched him, slightly smirking. „Don't get silly ideas.“

Casey threw a questioning side glance at him, giggling when the dog enthusiastically started to lick his hands. „You are such a good boy.“ He petted his back.

At this moment, a young woman stepped out of the drugstore, smiling, when she noticed Casey beside the dog. „Oh, I see, he's already made new friends.“

Casey stood up. „He's yours? Sorry, but I couldn't resist.“

„That's okay.“ She laughed, grabbing for the leash. „I know he can be very charming.

Have a nice day.“

„You too.“ Casey watched them wandering down the road, sighing slightly. „I always wanted a dog like him. But my mom always said: 'Oh no, dogs are much too loud and dirty.' “

Zeke shrugged. „Maybe one day. I wouldn't mind.“

Beaming wide, Casey turned around. „You sure?“

„Your home is only complete with someone you love and a dog,“ Zeke answered,“ my grandma used to say. And she was a smart woman.“
