Casey stared at the Christmas tree in the corner of Zeke's kitchen and frowned. „This looks... ähm... strange. I've told you that buying a Christmas tree last minute is not a good idea.“

Zeke laughed, putting his arm around his boyfriend's shoulder. „Calm down, for me, it's perfect. I can still remember the huge tree we had had when I was still a child; lots of lights and exclusive ornaments. Back then, I thought that it is the most wonderful tree in the world. But it was only a measure of status, like so many other things in my life. Important for my parents, though they actually never cared much for Christmas.

This tree is different, a bit twisted maybe, but all the ornaments are made with love, not bought with money. And I can't wait to light the candles and to put some gifts under its branches. I guess this is the true Christmas feeling. And I am glad to share it with you.“

Title: A new life
Characters: Rose DeWitt
Prompts: courage
Words: 177
finished: 23.12.2019

:::

Rose leaned her head back against the wooden sidewall of the cabin, closing her eyes to blend out her surroundings. The ship had saved so many souls tonight and now it would bring them back into a save haven. The waves, the wind. Desperately crying people, still refusing to give up hope that their loved ones may have survived, or mourning about them because they had accepted the truth.

She couldn't cry, she couldn't mourn. Not a floating iceberg had changed her entire life. Jack had; Jack, the penniless artist, on his way into a new life. He had dreamed about the lots of chances America would offer him; he had been funny and so full of hope. And he had stolen her heart within one night, had made her feel alive maybe for the first time in about eighteen years.

Now Jack was gone, together with so many others. And all she could think about was that though she would never forget him and this wonderful, horrible night, she finally had found the courage to go her own way.
